AISR projects cover a wide range of technology areas as well as science disciplines. These projects cover the science focus of the four divisions of Science Mission Directorate (SMD), namely the Earth , the Sun, the Solar System, and the Universe. Many projects propose to apply their algorithms and techniques to problems in more than one discipline. The diversity of projects with respect to technology area and to the science application area precludes a division of projects into precise classes. For this presentation, we have chosen to divide the currently active projects into five classes. First four classes are named after the four SMD divisions and include projects whose primary, or initial, application area falls in the respective division. The fifth class, Computational Science, includes projects whose primary focus is computational algorithms, or are multi-disciplinary in nature.
