Improving Swift (contd)
We propose to consolidate and extend the work begun under previous AISR grant entitled "Improving Swift." Swift, developed in large part and supported by the PI, is a state-of-the-art software package for performing numerical simulations of the dynamic evolution of planetary systems.Under our previous grant we have made a significant number of fundamental improvements to Swift ( we call the improved package "Swifter"), and we have developed an associated graphical data analysis package (called "SWIFTVis"). Both Swifter and SWIFTVis, however, require further testing before we can confidently release them to the public. Therefore, we will perform an extensive suite of build level tests in order to facilitate a public release of Swifter and SWIFTVis as soon as possible. Also, we will further develop tree-based force calculation algorithm for use with the numerical integrators of Swifter, thereby enabling far larger and more encompassing simulations than have been heretofore possible. Finally, we will develop a new integration algorithm that promises to enable fundamentally new research in the field of planetary system formation, in particular the formation of planets around stars in their birth clusters.
